Customizable Caramel Apples
Ingredients + Supplies
8 crisp apples
4 bags of soft, chewy caramels
3 Tbsp. of heavy cream or milk
Toppings of your choice (chopped candy bars, nuts, dried fruits, or even halloween-themed sprinkles for a more festive apple!)
8 lollipops or popsicle sticks
Lined baking sheet
Steps
Get your apples ready. Wash, dry, and stick a popsicle or lollipop stick into each apple. Set them on a baking sheet with your toppings nearby.
Melt the caramel. In a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, combine unwrapped caramels and a splash of heavy cream or milk. Heat and stir until smooth. If melting on the stovetop, use medium-low heat and stir occasionally. If using the microwave, heat and stir in 30-second increments. Remove when the mixture is a smooth consistency.
Dip and top. With an adult’s help, dip each apple into the caramel, swirl off the extra, and scrape the caramel off the bottom of the apple. Roll in your favorite toppings and place back on the sheet.
Chill and enjoy! Refrigerate for about 20 minutes until the caramel sets. Then they’re ready to eat!
