Inclusive, sensory-friendly adventures for families around Lincoln.

Whether your child thrives on movement, benefits from quieter environments, or simply enjoys hands-on exploration, Lincoln offers a growing number of sensory-friendly destinations designed to help every child feel engaged and included.

Finding Your Family’s Fit

Every child experiences the world differently, and what feels exciting for one child may feel overwhelming for another. The good news is that Lincoln continues to expand the number of inclusive spaces and sensory-friendly opportunities available to families. Whether you’re looking for a dedicated sensory gym, an accessible playground, or a quieter way to enjoy seasonal traditions, there are plenty of local options to help your family play, explore, and make memories together.

Indoor Adventures Await

When the weather isn’t cooperating—or your child needs a space built specifically for sensory exploration—Lincoln has a few standout options.

Bee Me Sensory Gym was created by an occupational therapist and welcomes children, teens, and adults. The space features a Snoezelen®-certified calming room, large swings, scooters, and a ball pit, offering opportunities for both sensory regulation and active play.

For younger children, Little Beans Play Café combines movement and imagination in a welcoming indoor setting. Designed for infants and children up to age five, the space includes climbing and swinging equipment, pretend-play stations, and dedicated areas for infants and toddlers.

Inclusive Outdoor Adventures

Mahoney Inclusive Playground provides a space where children of all abilities can play side by side. The fenced playground features barrier-free pathways, adaptive equipment, sensory gardens, and interactive play features designed to encourage exploration and connection.

Families looking for a quieter outdoor experience can also visit Pioneers Park Nature Center. The trails provide a calming environment where children can discover natural textures, sounds, and wildlife at their own pace.

Fall Fun at Home

Of course, some of the best sensory experiences can happen right at home. Try creating a fall-themed sensory bin with dried corn, acorns, leaves, and pinecones, or spend an afternoon decorating pumpkins, collecting leaves, and exploring the sights, sounds, and textures of the season together.

Lincoln Favorites for Every Family

Several of Lincoln’s favorite family destinations have made sensory inclusion a priority and are officially certified by KultureCity®.

The Lincoln Children’s Museum offers dedicated Sensory Hours every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. During these times, families can enjoy a quieter museum experience with trained staff and sensory-support resources available throughout the building.

The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is also recognized as a sensory-inclusive destination. Families can check out KultureCity® sensory bags at the front gate that include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and communication cue cards to help make visits more comfortable.

Fall Fun, Your Way

Autumn brings plenty of family-friendly activities to our community.

Roca Berry Farm offers seasonal favorites like pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and kid-friendly attractions. Families who prefer a less stimulating environment may find weekday visits more manageable than busy weekend crowds.

For a more relaxed alternative, Pearson’s Pumpkin Place in Eagle offers wide-open spaces, beautiful scenery, and classic fall activities without the larger crowds often found at bigger attractions.
