Your Friendly Neighborhood Land Phil
Hi, everybody! We’d like to introduce you to a friend of ours. His name is Land Phil, and he lives on Bluff Road in Lincoln. He’s big (171 acres as a matter of fact. But, hey, who’s counting?). He needs constant care to stay tidy. Above all, he does a heap of good for our community, and we could do some things that would make his life a whole lot better.
We Get It
Sometimes it’s easy to throw things in the garbage because it seems like they just disappear. But garbage doesn’t just disappear. It goes to Phil. If we’re being honest, he handles it all beautifully, but the problem is that some things just don’t need to go to Phil.
You Can Help Land Phil
We want you to think about what you send to Land Phil. Land Phil is filling up on recyclables and usable food faster than he should be. That’s where you come in. If we can love Land Phil a little better, we’ll all benefit
START RECYCLING!
All of Lincoln’s garbage collectors offer bundled garbage and curbside recycling services, making it convenient to incorporate recycling into your everyday routine. If you live in an apartment, or you can’t subscribe to a curbside recycling program at your home, there are recyclables collection sites around town so that you can still do your part to keep recyclables out of Land Phil.
SAVE FOOD!
Wasting food can eat a hole in your pocketbook. With the right combination of strategy and self-awareness, you can save a lot of money, and keep unnecessary waste from reaching Land Phil.
Start Simple
WHAT TO RECYCLE
• Plastics – #1, #2, and #5 (Bottles, jugs, and tubs)
• Paper – Newspaper, magazines, junk mail, cereal boxes, etc.
• Corrugated Cardboard
• Metal Cans – Aluminum and tin

HOW TO SAVE FOOD
Plan your meals and set a grocery list.
Use what you buy before you go out to eat.
Trust your senses. Manufacturers voluntarily provide date labels to help consumers determine when food is at peak quality. Instead of relying completely on the dates, use your senses too. Look, smell, and taste to avoid food waste.
Thanks for taking the time to meet Land Phil.
If we all come together and pay attention to how we dispose of our garbage, we can make sure he stays happy and healthy. That way he can keep doing what he loves—handling all our waste with a smile.
